"Have you forgotten Torrha? I would remind you that House Glover is pledged to House Stark, sworn to answer when called upon."
Sansa Stark to Robett Glover

Torrha Stark, also known as Torrha the Traveler and Torrha Glover, is an unseen character in Game of Thrones. She lived roughly eight thousand years ago, and thus died long before the timeframe of the TV series. She was the eldest daughter of Brandon the Builder. She is mentioned in the sixth season, and has appeared in the Histories & Lore featurettes.

Biography[]

Background[]

Torrha the Traveler was a legendary member of the First Men from the Age of Heroes, and the eldest daughter and second child of Brandon the Builder, the founder of House Stark. Just as her father was attributed to the construction of Winterfell and the Wall (hence his nickname of "the Builder"), Torrha was renowned for her expedition and eventual colonization of the Wolfswood (hence her nickname of "the Traveler").

In order to gain support for her father's grasp on the North, Torrha married a suitable suitor from House Glover and mothered a son. However, her husband was slain on the battlefield during Brandon the Builder's campaign for control of the North, leaving her with the responsibility of raising their son.

Torrha craved adventure, and found the confines of Deepwood Motte vastly unsatisfying, compelling her to sail west of Westeros to find the answer to the question that had irked her entire life. She never returned, leaving her orphaned son the burden of ruling House Glover at a young age. Brandon the Builder refused to send out search parties for his daughter, as he was a believer in inescapable fate, but he did mourn for Torrha.

Torrha's disappearance is shrouded in mystery, and is somewhat of a northern tale; some claim that she did complete her voyage and discovered a foreign continent west of Westeros, where a ruling king who was so struck by Torrha's beauty that he proposed to her the moment he laid eyes on her; others claim that her journey was sabotaged by Ironborn pirates, and now her unquenchable soul haunts all those who sail west of Westeros.[1][2][3]

Season 6[]

In an attempt to gain support for Jon Snow's claim on Winterfell from Robett Glover, Sansa Stark mentions their common ancestor, accusing House Glover of forgetting Torrha the Traveler and all she achieved for their house.[4]

While Arya Stark is attended to by Lady Crane for her wounds, the two discuss what's west of Westeros, and Arya claims that if the stories are true, the only person who knows is Torrha the Traveler.[5]

In the books[]

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Torrha the Traveler is also considered the colonizer of the Wolfswood.
