House Targaryen
House Targaryen

Princess Shaena Targaryen was the firstborn daughter of King Aerys II Targaryen and his sister-wife, Queen Rhaella. She was the Prince Seven Kingdoms. Shaena was loved by the smallfolk during her lifetime, but she died in Robert's Rebellion which was triggered in part by her brother's abduction of Lyanna Stark. She was said to have flung herself from Maegor's keep during the Sack of Kingslanding. Shaena was the elder sister of the exiled last members of House Targaryen, Prince Jaehaerys, Prince Viserys, Princess Daenerys, and Princess Naerys.

Appearance and Character[]

Shaena was a renowned beauty, with long Targaryen silver-gold hair, and an oval-shaped face. She was slender and tall, with big purple eyes and fine, pale, porcelain skin, near translucent when ill. Although she had light Lilac-coloured eyes similar to Daenys the Dreamer it was said to only enhanced her beauty. She was fond of and Myrish lace and cloth of different purples, silver, and black. She bore a slight resemblance to her younger sister Naerys Targaryen. Shaena was a great reader, even at an early age, spoke many languages. Shaena was an intelligent young woman, who excelled at anything that was given to her and grew to be a great singer and a skilled musician.

She enjoyed the company of her lady mother and spent many hours with her, as well as her younger brothers Jaehaerys and Viserys. Men said like her brother Rhaegar, Shaena loved her silver-stringed harp more than she loved her voice. She was close with her younger sister and good sister Rhaena Targaryen and Elia Martell alongside their shared ladies in waiting Ashara Dayne and Jocelyn Baratheon, Shaena's cousin. Shaena adored and doted upon her brothers children the young Princess Rhaenys, and later the baby Prince Aegon. The princess was well-loved by the people of the Seven Kingdoms during her lifetime and is still fondly remembered to this day.

Robert Baratheon called her his true queen that should have been instead Cersei Lannister, while Jaime Lannister remembers her aura of gentleness and the tenderness of her voice. Barristan Selmy, who served three Kings and Queens, thinks that Shaena would have been better than any of them. Her sister, Daenerys, is frequently compared to Shaena and their brother Rhaegar as a compliment. People who had romantic feelings toward Shaena were including her brother Rhaegar, Ser Arthur Dayne, Cassandra Baratheon, Robert Baratheon, and Jamie Lannister.

Robert's Rebellion[]

During the Sack of Kingslanding in 283 AC Shaena, at the age of twenty-one, Shaena jumped from her window in Maegor's Holdfast at the end of the siege. She died on the spikes below, with her stomach impaled. She lived for a hour in agony before her death. The reasons for her to commit suicide after nine months of captivity remain the subject of speculation. Shaena's death was officially deemed a suicide, akin to that of, Queen Helaena Targaryen and her daughter Jaehaera. However, many suspected that she had been murdered by Ser Jaime Lannister of the Kingsguard, son of lord Twyin Lannister, who had been the first to find the princess after she died; or that Jaime had merely stood aside to allow his father's soldiers, to do the deed.
