Scroungers are large half snake-like half slug-like creatures that inhabit the freshwater lakes and deep rivers and streams of The Neck. They live in large groups just below the surface level.
Large Lizard-Lions predate on them, but Lizard-Lion cubs and eggs often fall victim to scroungers.

In unsuspecting victims, Small scroungers can latch onto limbs and suck vital bodily fluids within minutes. Only salt or fire can make them release after latching on. Large Scroungers - though rarer - can swallow hole an entire adult human being.
