"We were a powerful house once. A strong house. Look at us now, we are weak, we don't have enough men to fight the Boltons. When your house fell, we had it worse. We had to deal with the ironborn first, not that big of a deal. Then Roose Bolton returned, and we were forced to bend the knee. If you can kill the Boltons, and restore the North, we will fight with you."
Cedric Winter, to Jon Snow[src]
House Winter of Winterhold is a vassal house that holds fealty to House Stark of Winterfell. Their lands are located to the north-east of the Stark territories, just south-east of the Wall and the lands held by the Night's Watch. Their stronghold is a ruined town called Winterhold and the head of the house is the Lord of Winterhold. The house was once powerful, but following the collapse of Winterhold it fell into disgrace.

House Winter's sigil is a white snowflake on an ice-blue field, with frozen icicles above. Their motto is "The Winds of Winter".

Season 1

House Winter rallies behind House Stark in the War of the Five Kings.

Season 6

Jon Snow and Sansa Stark are travelling across the North trying to get House Stark's former vassal houses to fight for them. They travel to the run-down town of Winterhold and speak to Lord Cedric Winter. Lord Cedric explains to them that House Winter is no longer the powerful house they once were, following the collapse of Winterhold which drove most of the town into the sea. To make matters worse, ironborn raiders also attacked the town. Although the Winters were able to fend off the invaders, their losses were too great. Following Roose Bolton's ascension as Warden of the North, the Winters forcibly bent the knee to House Bolton. Despite all this, Cedric agrees to support Jon and Sansa, knowing full well the risks of rebelling against their official liege lords.
