Gerrad Storm is a recurring character in the fifth and sixth seasons. He is the bastard son of Ser Roman Mercer. He has never known his father (in fact, his father is unaware that he even exists), and has been raised by his grandparents, Eddin and Myrianne Mercer, and his uncle Grayson Mercer, with whom he has a very good relationship with.
When Grayson is assassinated on his nameday, Lord Eddin sends Gerrad to Blackgard to better protect him from his father (rationalizing that, if Roman was willing to kill his own brother, then he'd probably be willing to kill his own son as well) where he was Trevyr Blackgard's ward. When Trevyr passes away, his son Eddin agrees to raise him as his foster child.
