Lord Garrant Gardener is the Lord of Highgarden and the first Warden of the South. He is married to Lady Corenna Lannister and has two children by her - Aegon, named after his liege, and Myrenna.
Garrant was born Garrant Florent, third son of Lord Axel Florent. Due to his father and brothers' abusive nature, Garrant decided to leave Brightwater Keep early in his life and travelled the land. During his trip to the Arbor, he encountered the disguised Lord Aegon Targaryen of Dragonstone and helped him leave, after Lord Redwyne's guards tried to arrest the future conqueror. Following this, the two became fast friends, and Garrant joined him on Dragonstone, becoming his sworn knight.
Rumor has it that Garrant was the lover of Queen Visenya Targaryen, due to the two's close bond during their time together, but even if Aegon knew of it, the two were friends their entire lives.
During the Conquest, Garrant fought on the side of the Targaryens and killed his own father on the Field of Fire. After subjugating the Reach, Aegon named Garrant Lord of Highgarden, due to his blood ties and loyalty and in turn, the Reachman renamed herself Gardener, taking his mother's name, thus the formerly royal house of the region survived the death of King Mern and his sons.
He was appointed the first Master of Laws and, due to Queen Rhaenys' attempt to bind the realm through marriages, was betrothed to the daughter of Lord Lannister - Corenna.
He served briefly as Hand of the King, before resigning due to ill health in 29 AC.
Surviving the Dornish war that followed, mostly due to the fact that he left his steward, Harlen Tyrell in charge of the occupation force, he died of old age in Highgarden in 33 AC.
