House-Baratheon-Old-Shield

"I do remember this child, I did never understand why I loved her so much. She was just a bastard, but a bastard I knew, a bastard I saw in birth. With her huge eyes, blue and purple, with her brown curls. I was proud of this single bastard girl, so proud that I gave her my name, and never changed it afterwards. She was a Baratheon. I do not know why we named her "Regara". This name had no sense, we created it. Me and her mother, because we thought about a lion, a roaring lion. And yet, I could not even face this little girl without thinking of war against her mother's family. So I chased them. Both of them, my lover and my nine months old baby. They left somewhere, I never heard about them anymore, except that they were dead, it did not affect me as I expected.[...]Oh, why do I tell all of this to you, you're such a young girl, and I talk to you about my lost child.[...]You know, my daughter would be around your age if she was still alive. "
Robert Baratheon to Elena

Lady Elena Baratheon, born Regara Alanys Baratheon, was the hidden daughter of Robert Baratheon and his lover, Alanys Targaryen, sister of the King Aerys II Targaryen, born in King's Landing. She was raised by a family of blacksmiths in Winterfell, the Hockwoods, as their daughter, and became Elena Hockwood. She then decided to leave for The Night's Watch with Jon Snow as her parentage was revealed by her adoptive father, cutting her hair and dressing up as a man, taking the name Elenor Hockwood. After being discovered, Elena was send beyong the wall and was attacked by the Night King, who unsuccessfully killed her but marked her in the middle of her chest. After being forced to leave the Night's Watch under Ramsay Bolton 's command, Elena becomes his personal guard and slave in a row, being a captive during the Battle of the Bastards. Biography[]

Genesis []

During the terrible grief which took Robert Baratheon following the death of his beloved wife Lyanna Stark, Alanys Targaryen, from the House Targaryen, came up to his life, quickly gaining his entire trust, becoming one of his closest friend and then lover. Alanys told Robert that she was from the family which took Lyanna and kept her origins secret. The relationship between the two young people laster longer than even Cersei, Robert's new wife, expected. Alanys befriended Eddard Stark during his stays at King's Landing.

Elena was born under the name Regara, a year and a half following Robert and Alanys' first meeting. Robert recognized the child and refused her to end her name with Snow, something Cersei despised. She and her brother, Jaime, made a research to discredit Alanys before she would take too much power from Robert and found, in the old archives, documents about Alanys' parentage and her affiliation to the House Targaryen and, in a row, her links to the now dead Aerys II Targaryen. As soon as Robert learnt about her links to his enemies, he urged to order her arrest and even wanted to kill Regara in a row. Tyrion Lannister managed to make the young mother escape from Robert's threats, telling them to leave for the North. On her way to Winterfell, Alanys got extremely sick and could not keep walking. She was found by a few soldiers of Winterfell and was led to Ned Stark she praised to keep her only daughter without telling her real name to his people. On her death bed, she was told that a family of blacksmiths, the Hockwood, were willing to take her child with them and raise her as their own daughter alongside their four year old son, Sam. Ned Stark had, however, the right to assist the family, giving a huge importance to the child of his friend. Alanys died in 284 AC, Regara was renamed Elena

Background []

Elena grew up in a loving family who gave her the taste of fights. She and her brother Sam grew up to be fighters. Elena was comonly send to Catelyn Stark to be presented to Sansa, the Starks oldest daughter, to become her personal maiden and a possible guard. Elena befriended Robb in a row, and more particularly Jon, who was despised by Catelyn. For a huge part of her childhood, Elena spent time with the Stark children, becoming almost one of them, being frequently presented to houselords as a one of the handmaidens of the family.

Elena pledged a lifelong allegiance to Sansa, making her adoptive father become the personal smith of the Stark family. Rob, Jon and Theon taught her to fight with swords following Sam's lessons. Sansa considered Elena like her equal, even like a sister, something Arya did afterwards, followed by Bran, since she was an example to follow for most of Winterfell's children alongside Sam. Elena however had to be taught to learn more of the "women tasks", such as sewing and playing music, something she despised. At the age of 9, Elena wrote five songs for the Starks and three for the Hockwood, which game her the reputation to be one of the youngest song writers of Winterfell and even gained Robert Baratheon's attention as he red one of her poems without knowing who she was. Elena wrote a poem to Robert under Ned's demand without knowing neither her origins nor her links to the King.

Season 1 []

Elena is first seen in training with Bran, Theon, Jon and Robb, watching over the way they teach the young Stark to use a bow, she participates to the training and compliments Arya's capacities. She is then brought back to the upper rooms of Winterfell alongside Arya to be taught to sew a dress, something she despises and even claims it to Sansa before being scolded by Septa Mordane, who asks her to remain silent. Elena laughs as the Septa is mocked by Sansa but is later on forced to help her in the common tasks, taking her as an example. Mordane even tells Elena that she wished she was at Sansa's place and wishes she could have been such a quiet and respectful teenager.

As the Baratheon family comes for a visit at Winterfell, Elena is on the second line to greet the guests, standing between Jon and Theon. During the party organized for their visit, Elena greets Cersei who asks her, as she did with Sansa, if she already bled. Elena responds by a nod, leaving Cersei get closer to her, stroking her cheek, telling her she looked like a child although she was older than Sansa. Elena leaves to join Jon and Tyrion afterwards, bringing them food and wine. Tyrion thanks her kind behaviour and

Elena is seen following the funeral of the soldiers who battled during the war. An argue is taking place concerning the place where the Baratheon girl, as aknowledged by Daenerys, will lay. Gendry demands her to be taken to Storm's End, the rightful place to bury a Baratheon, whereas Kaleb demands her to be burried at his homeland, in Saltcollon, and the Start sisters, especially Sansa, demand the body to be kept in the crypts of Winterfel in order to avoid ice to melt. Daenerys seemingly wins the fight by ordering that Elena's icy body would be taken to Dragonstone and then burried at King's Landing, where she was born. Daenerys officially names her Lady Elena Baratheon, Princess of King's Landing

Elena is briefly mentionned by Daenerys to Jon, shortly before the battle of King's Landing. Jon refuses the body to be taken far from her land. Kaleb, upon rescuing Aeron, also talks about his icy cold wife who was the child of both flowers and fire.

Elena appears during the execution of her husband and his brother behind her daughter Elga. Mentionned later on by Jon to Daenerys (who renamed the Slone daughter Regara), the discussion is quite focusing on the place were Elena should be burried. Sansa brings both Aeron and Astara with her in the North and organizes a huge funeral for the two Slones at Winterfell. Elena's body is seen one last time before being placed into the crypts of the Starks.

Appearance[]

Elena was comonly described like to be the perfect Southern Beauty, having light eyes and brown hair. Elena had some features that can be seen in House Targaryen, such as purple/blue eyes and very pale skin, yet she had her father's hair color. Her skin had an olive color before moving to the North, where it turned almost as white as snow, as her hair turned black. Elena's hair was also naturally wavy.  During her childhood, Elena was distinguished for her huge light eyes and her black hair always tied in a braid. As she cut her hair, her feminine face-shape vanished until she went back Castle Black following an expedition beyond the wall. She let it grow to a point that she refused to cut it again. Elena was a short woman, around the same height as Arya Stark. As she turned into a White Walker, she grew up to Sansa's height, if not even taller.

Elena showed an extreme bold behaviour towards people. She refused to comply with Ramsay Bolton and, for her role in the Night's Watch, even deserved a song called " Bold Lorlady " which people sang as she came back to Winterfell after being found by Ramsay. Elena never had any feminine attribute and never considered herself as a lady, which made people judge her badly for her rank in Winterfell as Sansa's lady in waiting.
