- "I'd wanted to fight Tyrus myself. But Lord Grayburn held me back. And both he and Tyrus ended up killing each other. And for that, Garrick Grayburn was forever after known as "Ironbreaker"."
- ―Jaime Lannister recounts the duel.
The Duel at Pyke was an event that took place at the end of the Greyjoy Rebellion, occurring simultaneously during the Siege of Pyke, the final battle of the rebellion. It took place between Garrick Grayburn, the ageing Lord of Brightbank and one of the chief Northern commanders during the entire rebellion, and Tyrus Harlaw, the Lord Defender of the Iron Islands who served as one of Balon Greyjoy's chief generals (and was also his brother-in-law.) The duel has been widely described by many, including Jaime Lannister and Jorah Mormont (who both witnessed the duel firsthand) as one of the greatest duels to ever take place. Ultimately, both men would end up killing each other.
