The Dawnbringer is a legendary figure in the culture of the Free Folk and the Northmen. Thousands of years ago, he wielded the ancient sword Nightfall which he used to defeat the White Walkers during the Long Night. According to myth, the Dawnbringer was not a holy or a good man, as he wielded darkness and cold himself to repel the Walkers. Therefore, he was also dubbed "the Black Sun", "the Black Knight" and "the Rider in the Shadows".
