The Battle of the Banefort was a battle of the Greyjoy Rebellion, taking place approximately nine years before the beginning of the Game of Thrones series. The forces of House Greyjoy, led by Anthor Greyjoy, the younger brother Balon Greyjoy, attacked the Banefort, on Ironman's Bay. The attack, however, was a failure and Anthor Greyjoy was killed by Trevyr Blackgard, the Lord of Ebonheart.[1]
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Lord Trevyr Blackgard slew Anthor beneath the walls of the Banefort after a short, but destructive naval battle and drove his men back into the sea. According to Trevyr, he battled Anthor in a single man-to-man duel and claimed that the "Great Kraken" took the terrible mistake of misjudging his battle prowess.
