Lord Commander Aegon Targaryen was the second child and first son of Prince Aenar Targaryen and Lady Allyria Dayne. He was the younger brother of Princess Rhaelinor Targaryen.
Following the assassination of Rhaeys I, Aegon believed himself to be the next in line to the throne and styled himself briefly as Aegon of the House Targaryen, the Sixth of his Name, King of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Eight Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm and Emperor of the Summer Sea. However, this was called into question upon the return of his cousin Jaehaerys to Westeros after years in hiding. Initially, Jaehaerys had little proof besides his physical features of his identity as Rhaeys' son. It was only when Jaehaerys presented the Valyrian Steel sword Blackfyre, that his father carried before him, that the Small Council ruled in favour of Jaehaerys inheriting the Kingdoms. After a brief objection, Aegon conceded defeat rather than risking any more violence. A few years later, Aegon was appointed to the Kingsguard and eventually rose to become its Lord Commander.
Aegon was a dragonrider and rode the dragon Fornaxes, like his father.
