Aegon Blackfyre, previously known as Aegon Targaryen and Young Griff, was the son of Serra Blackfyre and Illyrio Mopatis. He staked his claim to the Iron Throne on two occasions, during the sixth and seventh Blackfyre rebellions.

Aegon was initially raised and presented as the surviving son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell. He was told as a child by his guardians Illyrio Mopatis and the eunuch Varys that he was the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. Aegon planned to invade Westeros and stake his claim in the early third century AC. However, following the events of his (assumed) aunt Daenerys' invasion of Westeros and the events of the Long Night, Aegon called off his invasion. It was then when his true identity as a member of the Blackfyre dynasty was revealed to him, as well as the identities of Illyrio as his father and Varys as his uncle. Aegon now spent the next decade travelling the Free Cities, gathering support for a new invasion of Westeros, this time in the name of House Blackfyre. He additionally visited Westeros in secret on several occasions, gathering support from some smaller lords.

In 325 AC, Aegon invaded Westeros, beginning the Sixth Blackfyre Rebellion. Although he had some initial success, the tide soon turned against him. Aegon managed to flee Westeros and went into hiding in the Free Cities.

In 353 AC, following the death of King Daeron III Targaryen, Westeros was plunged into civil war as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen attempted to usurp the throne from her newly crowned nephew, Jaehaerys. Seeing this disarray, a now elderly Aegon launched a second invasion of Westeros, although this too ended in failure and Aegon was slain, along with his son, Daemon. Aegon's daughter Viserra, as the last surviving Blackfyre, briefly staked her claim to the throne by way of diplomacy and a marriage alliance with Prince Viserys Targaryen, however she was executed by the newly-crowned Queen Rhaenys Targaryen, ending the line of House Blackfyre permanently.
