A Dream of Spring is the feature-length series finale fan edit of Game of Thrones.

Plot[]

After much turmoil and bloodshed across the Seven Kingdoms, the battle for the Iron Throne comes to an end, and the kingdom's true fate is revealed.

Notes[]

  • The objective of this fan edit was to create a satisfying conclusion to the Game of Thrones television series that adhered to all pre-established canon up to the Season 8 episode "The Long Night".
  • With this fan edit, consider Season 7 a full ten episode season consisting of its original seven episodes as well as the first three episodes of Season 8.
  • With a runtime of 141 minutes (2 hours, 20 minutes, 52 seconds), approximately 1 hour, 32 minutes, and 42 seconds has been cut from the final three episodes of Season 8, title sequences and closing credits included.

Differences from the original episodes[]

"The Last of the Starks"[]

  • Tormund's line "He climbed on a fucking dragon and fought. What kind of person climbs on a fucking dragon?" is no longer present, due to *Tormund riding a dragon in the previous season.
  • Tyrion doesn't suggest Brienne is a virgin during their drinking game, as she is an unwed lady and this would be expected of her in Westerosi society.
  • Gendry no longer erroneously refers to himself as "Gendry Rivers".
  • Tyrion and Jaime don't encounter Bronn, as he would not reach Winterfell by the time the two brothers depart for King's Landing.
  • Missandei is not captured, instead drowning during Euron's attack on Daenerys's fleet at Dragonstone; her death now eerily resembles a joke she told in the Season 6 episode "No One".
  • Daenerys, Tyrion, Varys, and Grey Worm's council meeting at the Painted Table from the Season 8 episode "The Last of the Starks" is removed, in order to showcase a broken, colder, and darker Daenerys from the Season 8 episode "The Bells" in the immediate aftermath of Rhaegal and Missandei's deaths; this Daenerys is more consistent in her character and demeanour throughout the episode, leaning towards her Targaryen madness more often than not.
  • Jaime no longer mentions "strangl[ing] his cousin", as it was Torrhen Karstark who suffered that fate, not his cousin Alton who was beaten to death.
  • As Missandei is not captured, Daenerys and Cersei no longer parley at the gates of King's Landing.

"The Bells"[]

  • Tyrion doesn't correlate the ringing of King's Landing's bells to surrender, as in the Season 2 episode "Blackwater", Davos mentions that "[He's] never known bells to mean surrender".
  • Jaime is not captured by Daenerys's forces outside King's Landing, nor does he encounter Euron, entering the city and reuniting with Cersei with only minor wounds.
  • Euron does not survive the incineration of the Iron Fleet, with Daenerys avenging the deaths of Rhaegal and Missandei.
  • Instead of the suggestion that the ringing bells impact her decision to massacre the citizens of King's Landing, Daenerys enters the battle with this intention, in which not even the surrender of the Lannister army can deter her.
  • Arya does not encounter the white horse in the aftermath of the battle, making her way through the ruins of the city on foot instead.

"The Iron Throne"[]

  • Tyrion is not aware of Jaime's presence in King's Landing, so he does not seek out his siblings' corpses.
  • Grey Worm does not execute Lannister soldiers, so as to avoid the question of how he arrived at the Red Keep before Jon despite Jon departing before him.
  • Tyrion does not resign as Hand of the King to Daenerys, but is clearly displeased with the lengths she is willing to go to satiate her thirst for fire and blood.
  • Instead of Tyrion prompting Jon's next move, Jon acts on his own accord in order to save the world from Daenerys's conquest.
  • Drogon does not melt the Iron Throne, merely crying out for his dead mother and fleeing the continent with her corpse.
  • The final page of Jaime’s entry in the White Book is not shown, as his imprisonment that did not transpire is mentioned.
  • An alternate ending in which, despite vocally rejecting his birthright, Jon does his duty as the heir to the Iron Throne and remains in King's Landing with Tyrion as his hand. He oversees the departure of the Dothraki and Unsullied, escorted by his Kingsguard, which is formed from what remains of the Night's Watch.
